The originality and excellence of these poems written by my students prompted me to compile this second book of Bilingual Chinese & English Poetry.?These unique poems reflect the students viewpoints of life, happiness, friendship and love. From these fresh voices, we get to know these bilingual teenagers better. We can see throught these poems their personal struggles to adapt to the American school system, their conflicts with parents at home, their sweet memories of life back in China, and most valuable of all, their ambitions and dreams.
The poems were first initiated as a written assignment in my advanced Chinese classes after they had studied a series of modern Chinese poetry. They were then encouraged to write their poems in English, with my modification of certain expressions, and finally improved and proofread by Ms. Carla Huck, my talented colleague. My hearty gratitude goes to the following two outstanding individuals who make this publication possible. Ms. Rosa Pietanza:?A.P. Supervision of Foreign Language Dept.
